A story about ShipwreckMazuma

ShipwreckMazuma is one of the first 43T people with whom I felt an instant affinity. He is intelligent, witty, funny, valiant, and kind. Also, he has extraordinarily good taste in movies, books and tv ;-) Today, ShipwreckMazuma, I wish you a happy and most excellent birthday. Thank you for being my true blue friend here on 43T.

A story about bibliomane

Bibliomane is a sensitive, socially conscious, humorous, dog-loving, Michael Franti-listening, book-appreciating kind soul who is a friend to border collies and has the good sense to choose John Lennon as her favorite Beatle. What’s not to like about Bibliomane? The world is clearly a better place with her in it.

A story about bibliomane

Bibliomane does nothing but be supportive and aware around this site. Lately she’s been having a heck of a time with a particular work situation. Though I’m not as much of a new agey person as I used to be, I think everybody should send ‘good vibe’ wishes her way.

A question I have about bibliomane

Have you seen this shirt? I came across it while looking at this monthly comic book catalog I get.

Why I admire bibliomane

Her perserverance in her goals, and reasoned/intelligent dialogue of her ideals has been enjoyable to read from the first time I’d come across her here. Bibliomane and I have a lot in common and I always enhoy replying to her comments and just talking in general with her. I really would like to meet her someday, if she ever finds herself passing through Minnesota. Between her and my wife I have been re-inspired to go back to school and either get a degree in library sciences or education.

Why I admire Meryl Streep

Well, actually, I don’t think I really want to meet Meryl Streep. It would be too intimidating, like staring into the sun. It would be cool, however, to be in the same room with her, to see if she is really as ridiculously, stunningly beautiful as she seems on screen.

Why I want to meet Nancy Pearl

Sure, it would be great fun to meet Nancy Pearl. I would ask her what she is reading and maybe tell her about some of my favorite books.

Why I admire John Lewis

If I met Congressman John Lewis, I would be honored to shake his hand. I would also ask him why he isn’t running for President.

Why I admire Anne Lamott

Based entirely on her non-fiction books, Anne Lamott seems to be the kind of person I might actually run into in my real life. I can imagine that she would be a great person to sit down with over a cup of coffee and have a great, long chat about the state of the world and why we are all going to hell in a handbasket.

If I did somehow meet her, I think I would want to give her a big hug (I would ask her first) for being so honest, brave, funny, idealistic and flawed. I’ve read letters on Salon where people are really critical of how she interacts with her son. Here’s the thing, though: it is obvious from what Lamott writes that she knows full well when and how she has screwed up. I think she is astonishingly brave to write about her failures as well as her successes. Her books help me to forgive myself for my foibles. Also, I am not Christian, seeing as how I don’t believe in the Messiah, that Jesus was our savior or even in the concept of sin, but when I read Lamott’s books, I almost wish I were. I admire the integrity with which she tries mightily to lead a truly Christian life.

Why I admire Michael Franti

I don’t really need to meet Michael Franti, but I would love to see him in concert. He is a fabulous musician with an awesome, social justice-oriented message. I bet he does a great live concert.
